This is a premier Institution catering to the Education of Ayurveda in the State of Telangana. The College is named after the First Chief Minister of Hyderabad Sri.Burgula Ramakrishna Rao. The institution was started in 1935 as private college in Hyderabad State by pioneering Vaidyas like Shri.ShankarPrashadHargovind, Sri, M.RangaCharya, Sri.D.RamanaRaju, Sri.Janardhan, Sri.RamanujamSwamy, Sri.RadhaKishanji, and Sri. Narsing Prasad Markandeya and Sri Ramadas.
PRINCE OF BERAR inaugurated the College in the year 1935 in Sultan Bazar. In the year 1941 his Excellency and Highness Nizam of Hyderabad issued “FIRMAN” making it Government Ayurvedic College and Pandit Radhakrishnaji was appointed as the first Principal of the College.
Firstly (4) years course was offered in Hindi Medium. In the year 1951 few modern Medicine subjects were introduced. In 1956 Telugu Medium was introduced. In 1960 (1) year House Surgency was introduced. In 1970 this institution was affiliated with OsmaniaUniversity, Hyderabad. In the 1973 this college adopted CCIM (Central Council of Indian Medicines) New Delhi syllabus. In the year 1986 this institution was affiliated to Dr.NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada with a duration of (3) semesters consisting one and half year each with One year House Surgency of BAMS courses as per the CCIM stipulations.
The Post-Graduate Course was started during the year 1973 with Kayachikitsa speciality having a strength of (10) Scholars. In the year 1981 Shalya,Shalakya & PrasutiTantra was started with a strength of (10) scholars and in the year 1992-93 Dravyaguna PG Course was started with a strength of (6) Scholars and in the year 2008-09, two PG Specialties i.e. Panchakarma and Samhitha have been started with a strength of (6) scholars each under the Central Sponsored Scheme in a newly constructed building in college premises.
In the year 1984 this college has been shifted to its own building at Erragadda, Opp. E.S.I Hospital Lane, Hyderabad constructed in 4.6 acres of land including Girls & Boys Hostels and Hospital Buildings. Further in the year 1994 the than Honrable chief minister late srikotlavijayabhaskarreddygaru of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has allotted 57.98 acres of land at Himayathsagar, RajendernagarMandal, Ranga Reddy Dist for the purpose of growing Medicinal plants exclusively to this college. Now this herbal garden is developing under the state medicinal plant board.
Herbal garden/ nursery’s developed in the college premises in 1.5 acre land for identification and demonstration to the students as well as for free distribution of nursery plants to the general public.
An Auditoriumnamed “Dhanwantarisabhamantapam” with 300 seating capacity in the college building fully equipped with all latest facilities was constructed and inaugurated in the year 2000 and is being used for conferences and other college functions . A mini seminar hall named “Atreyasabhamantapam” is used for regular academic activities of UG and PG students.
